LOOK WHAT I WON!

In the Spring issue of  Pat Winter's Crazy Quilt Gatherings I noticed a contest sponsored by Flights of Fancy Boutique.  You had to use at least 6 items out of one of their monthly Trim and Treasure Club packets in your finished project.

I used February's Trim and Treasure Club pack

These were the 7 pieces I used out of it

I was working on this Boho Bag at the time for a friend at work

This was the back of the bag.

I discovered in the Autumn issue of Crazy Quilt Gatherings I had won the Beaded Beauties pack from Flights of Fancy, and my prize came in yesterday's mail.

I so look forward to my Trim and Treasure Packs each month from Flights of Fancy and they are the first things I reach for when working on my projects.

Thanks so much Pat, and Flights of Fancy for sponsoring this contest, and congratulations to the First place winner Terri Melby!

CELL PHONE CASE

Slowly getting back to stitching after a long hiatus.  I just completed this cell phone case for a friend at work. I had made her one several months ago, and she asked me to make one for her mother too.  So I am delivering this one today.  Her mother loves butterflies so I tried to get in as many as I could.  The back of the case also has a little pocket with a butterfly attached.

Now I have to get to work on a baby quilt for our 5th grandchild, a girl due in less than 2 months.   I pulled out some blocks I had started for her big brother 3-1/2 years ago when I decided what I was doing was "too girly" even though it involved frogs and a princess kissing a frog.  I just need to embroider the princess and the frog, and make the center section and I can start putting it together.

Today is off to work again, and I am working the Labor Day Holiday all day.

Recent Classes

The past several months I have participated in several classes on Artful Gatherings.  I was thrilled to be able to participated in an Artful Photoshop class with Pamela Huntington in June and July, and also The Spoken Soul with Mary Jane Chadbourne.

I had always wanted to learn more about Photoshop, and the Artful Photoshop with Pamela Huntington went beyond my expectations.  I look forward to doing more collages using the techniques I learned in class.  This was a card for my son-in-law Jeffrey, who happens to own a used car lot.

In The Spoken Soul Class with Mary Jane Chadbourne we altered playing cards, by painting, adding graphics, and quotes.  I haven't finished up many of my cards yet but these are a few.  I used my granddaughter's Halloween picture as a fairy in the last one.

In session 2, I took Lovely Sea Maiden with Judy Johnson, in which I am still needle-felting a mermaid. Class is just about over and I will have to finish this one up this fall.

I also took House of Cards with Mary Jane Chadbourne, where we decorated houses to put our cards in.  I had wanted to do one with an Alice-in-Wonderland theme for my granddaughter Kyleigh's 13th birthday.

This was actually the first house I made.  This started out as the Alice house, but by the time I got through
collaging, painting, and crackling the outside of the house it had turned dark, and looked like a fall house.

I had a great time with all of these classes, and have so much more I want to do.  Today is daughter Katie's BD so I actually got a Saturday off to take her to lunch.  I also have a commissioned cell-phone case I need to work on so am going to take advantage of the time I have this morning to work on that a bit.

Cell Phone Case

I just discovered there was one finished item I had not shared.  Several months ago, a friend asked if I could make a cell phone case for her.  She wanted it to hang from her shoulder like a purse but she just wanted a case for her cell phone.

I asked her if she would like me to add fringe, I had just made the pink Boho and had lots of leftovers from that, and she said she would love it, whatever I wanted to do.  She absolutely loved her case, and told me ladies had stopped her in expensive department stores, and asked her where she had gotten it!

I saw her last week, and she told me her mother loves her case, and asked if I could make her one too, to hang from her shoulder.  And her mother loves butterflies.  So I am piecing that one right now.

MY MOJO IS BACK, SHARON B. STENCILS

My Mojo has been gone for 2 months and it finally returned last night.  I haven't felt like doing any crazy quilting since I finished the last Bojo I made.  I had plans to make a new one for myself, and my granddaughter wants one for her birthday in August.  I had plans to make a new cell phone case.  When I got an order for another cell phone carrying case from a friend at work, I decided I had better find my Mojo.

I had been really, really, really hoping to get a transfer to a different department at work, but I was not one of the five considered because of seniority.  And I was really disappointed and it somehow made my Mojo disappear for awhile.

Nothing has changed, I am still hoping to transfer out of my department at work.  Still applying for positions and hoping I can have more seniority than somebody so I can make the transfer.

We did have a really nice vacation 2 weeks ago.  We took a trip to Yellowstone National Park and spent several days there.  Got some great pics of buffalo, long horn sheep, mule deer and saw Old Faithful and many other geysers spouting.  We were on our way home, camping in Nevada, when we got a call from our daughter Kristen, stating Maidu Park, which is across the street from us was on fire.  It is a 150 acre park, and 30 acres burnt that day.  It was a very windy day, and 4 houses across from the park caught on fire.  We live about 1/2 to 3/4 mile from where the fire was.  Kristen called, telling us our house was safe.  We had planned to stay a night in Reno, but after hearing about the fire, I just wanted to come home.  I still had 4 more days of vacation, so I just relaxed at home.

Yesterday afternoon, after chatting with NickiLee on Words with Friends, she asked me if I wanted to participate with her in a private CQ block swap, and I agreed.  She spurred me into heading into my sewing room and I put on some tunes and pieced 2 Boho tops.  This morning I plan to piece 2 cell phone cases, and a block for a private swap with NickiLee.

Yesterday's mail brought Sharon B's Crazy Quilting Stencils.  They are absolutely wonderful.  I love how sturdy they are, and can't wait to start using them.  I had downloaded the booklets when I ordered and got them laminated and spiral-bound at my local copier place.

Anyway back to piecing and I hope to have something to show in a couple of days.

CQJP-MARCH AND LINDA'S BOHO

My CQJP for March again was a flap for a Boho
bag.  A friend of mine from work Linda, commissioned me to make her a Boho in pink.  This was the flap before I started putting the bag together.

This was the completed bag.  Linda absolutely loved it when she came in and picked it up on Saturday.

This was the inside of the flap:

The back of  the bag

And under the flap, I used a vintage linen to make
2 pockets.  Inside the bag, which is hard for me to
photograph, it has a pocket made of a vintage hankie, and one made of a vintage doily

CQJP-FEBRUARY 2013 & KARRIN'S 2ND BOHO

This is my CQJP block for February.  It was made into the flap of my new Boho Bag.  I forgot to take a picture of the completed flap before I put my bag together, I was so excited to be putting a new bag together.  I just wanted it done!

For my bag I used elements I had purchased at various Etsy shops including  Gypsy Feather, Delightful Designer, Raviolee Dreams, and CathysCrazybyDesign.

This is the completed front.  The instruction booklet for this bag came from Pat Winter's Boho Fever Booklet.  Also her spring edition of the Crazy Quilt Gathering's magazine is out and the link to purchase can also be found on her blog.

This is the back of the bag

And under the flap.  Pat had some graphics you can copy and use for your bag

This is a pocket inside.

I am going to have a lot of fun showing this off at work today.

TAKE A STITCH TUESDAY 52, TRIANGULAR FEATHER STITCH

I tried another new stitch to me in Sharon Boggan's TAST-2013, the Triangular Feather Stitch.  I really liked it, and it is another version of my all-time favorite the feather stitch.  It is on the current Boho purse I am working on, soon to start another one for a friend at work.  This one is for me.  Will be ready to reveal maybe next week.

Nancy's Boho

After I had finished my Boho Bag, I showed it around at work.  Two of the nurses I work with expressed interest in me making one for them too.

Nancy was the first one, so I made hers first and just finished it yesterday before I went back to work for the week.  She had wanted greens and earth colors.

She was thrilled with the result. The other ladies at work were ooying and ahing too.   I need to adjust the strap though today before I go to work and then I can call this one done.

 This is the back.

                       Under the flap:

The last photo is of the one of the inside pockets.  There are a row of pockets on the other side, but they are the same color as the lining fabric and hard to photograph.

Pat Winter's booklet Boho Fever was where I got the instructions to make this bag, and can be found at her site.

I will post my granddaughter's bag tomorrow.  I finished that one for Christmas, and she was delighted with it!

TAST-Stitch 49: Knotted Feather Stitch

I am about 3 weeks late, but this is my sample of the Knotted Feather, in Take a Stitch Tuesday, hosted by Sharon Boggan.

I had finished my sample several weeks ago, but have been concentrating on finishing my first commissioned Boho Bag.  I hope to finish it up today, and give it to the nurse at work tomorrow I am making it for.
Will have more pictures later when it is completed.

CQJP2013-JANUARY

I joined in the CQJP for 2013, and I just finished my first block.  This also represents the flap of my 1st commissioned Boho Bag.  As soon as Nancy, one of the nurses at my work saw my own Boho, she asked if I would make her one.  All I need to do is find some fringe and beads to edge the flap, and I can start putting it together next week on my days off.  I am hoping to find those today on my lunch hour.
